Mabel Rocks Timberland Iconic Boots at the BRIT Awards

At Timberland we’re used to seeing our iconic boots on the feet of the world’s biggest stars. Pharell, Rihanna, Kanye, Drake and many others are often snapped out and about wearing our yellow 6-inch boots. But even we were taken aback to see the iconic boots all over the stage at the 2020 Brit Awards – Mabel had made them the footwear of choice for herself and her troupe of female dancers.

Mabel opened the Brit Awards show with her monster 2019 song Don’t Call Me Up, which racked up 188 million YouTube views in just over a year. The performance starts with three banks of manned phone desks filling the stage, with Mabel in pink, spotlit and front of stage. Moments later we see her whole outfit and nod approvingly as the classic Timberland Original 6-inch Boot comes into shot. But it’s about to get better.

Enter the dancers

A minute into the song, along come Mabel’s female dancers, all dressed in white crop tops and mustard joggers… and matching yellow Timberland boots. Within minutes they’re tearing up the stage and carrying off the desks to give more space for the impressive routine. It’s all proof that you can not only wear these iconic boots with anything, but you can even dance in them too (and do some light removal work).

We already knew Mabel was a fan – she attended the launch of our Flyroam sneaker way back in 2017. It’s great to see she’s still loving Timberland (and the love is mutual!).

And she’s keeping the love coming our way in her latest video, which was launched yesterday and has already had 2.3 million views. Boyfriend sees Mabel and her friends trying to zero in on Mr Perfect via an advanced holographic dating app, and we know she means business when we see her choice of footwear – a pair of black Timberlands. We don’t think Mabel will have to wait long and can rest assured that she’ll be perfectly shod wherever their first date takes them.

Cultured style

The BRIT Awards are the UK’s answer to the Grammys – an annual celebration of British and international musicianship from the past year. As well as kicking off the live show, Mabel also walked off with the “Best Female Solo Artist” award (although she’d slipped into a frock and heels by then), and was nominated for “Song of the Year” and “Best New Artist” (both of which she lost to Lewis Capaldi).

The award came exactly 30 years after her mother Neneh Cherry won two BRIT awards – “International Solo Artist” and “International Breakthrough Act” – and also performed her hit Manchild on stage. Apparently she melted down both awards and made them into jewellery, which is always an option.

We’ll wait and see what happens in 2050, but we’re sure all those Timberlands will still be going strong.
